Camp 2019 is now over, we left the site about 3 hours ago (as i write this) and I am currently drifting in and out of sleep in the back of the minibus. What an absolutely wonderful week it was though. Firstly, I would like to say how lucky we are to have the ability to continue to run this camp; we are blessed to have so many children in our Church’s youth groups and are very lucky to have such dedicated staff volunteers. We had a total of 90 people on our site this year which just shows what a fantastic week it is, people always want to return the next year.

St Ives 2019, has been a special camp, the weather ranged from baking sun to intermittent storms and high winds. Regardless of the weather, however, we never let it stop the fun!!! Some of the great days included Hunt the Officer in the busy town (shout out to Martin who dressed as a 6 foot tall inflatable dinosaur), the wide game and emergency ten pin bowling (a last minute addition due to the weather), the day trip to flambards and of course the famous bingo! These all happened alongside the normal classics of intersports, camp concert and the almost daily beach trips. Then the success of the TOKENS!!!!!

But the real highlight for me was seeing two of our 14 plus complete their last year as campers (Jess & James); both of whom have been attending since they were juniors. Just seeing these two grow into wonderful young adults whilst being part of our Camp family for the last nine years is a real joy. Arguably the best part is that both have already asked to join the staff team for 2020 – the new generation of leaders to come maybe? Whatever happens, we’re sure they’ll be a fantastic addition to our team. It makes me believe that Belmont & Carey Youth Camp isn’t just an annual trip but more like a vocation, a way of life. Bless you all for being part of it.
